How to Pack Up Your Life and Move Across the Country (Without Losing Your Mind)

So, at 60 years old, my husband and I have decided to sell the house, pack it up, and move across the country to be closer to our children and grandchildren!

Moving across the country isn’t just about boxes and bubble wrap. It’s about closing one chapter and stepping into a completely new one. And while it sounds exciting (and it is), the reality can feel overwhelming fast.

Between organizing your home, managing logistics and trying to keep your sanity…it’s a lot.

But here’s the good news. With the right systems in place, you can stay organized, reduce stress and maybe even enjoy parts of the process. Here are some things that I am doing that may be helpful for you.

Start with a Life Audit (Before you pack a single box)

Ask yourself:

>What do I actually use?

>What do I want in my next chapter?

>What am I holding onto out of habit?

Moving is the perfect time to declutter.

If you wouldn’t pack it for a fresh start; don’t bring it.

Create 4 categories:

Keep, Donate, Sell, Trash

Create a Moving Command Center

This is your sanity saver.

Use:

>A binder, folder, or digital document

>Checklists

>Important documents

>Moving quotes

>Receipts

Think of this as your “moving brain”

Pro tip: Keep this with you at all times…not packed in the moving truck!

Pack by Zone, Not by Panic

Right now, we are still a month out before moving. However, there are rooms that can be sorted and packed.

>Pack one room at a time

>Label boxes by room and category

As you are going through each room, make sure you are clearing the clutter as necessary.

Make sure you follow along this journey as I share my tips with you in getting us moved across country!
